“Walking into Shelton 5 years ago was mesmerizing; its ambience is not that of a typical school.”

 Ms. Yoalys Perez

3rd Grade Teacher

Ms. Perez comes from a family of sports enthusiasts. Surrounded by a barbecue and her closest loved ones, Ms. Perez watches sports every Sunday during football season and particularly enjoys baseball. She shares her love of baseball with her sons, that also play the sport; a family tradition that has been around for several generations. Her children are what inspires her to do better, be better, and earn their respect. She is dedicated to setting a positive example for them in hopes that she continues to become someone they love and admire. She credits her parents for instilling good morals and values into her and for always being there for her during trying times. Ms. Perez feels that everything she does is done with passion. She believes that something that you are passionate about motivates you and challenges you and she admits that being a mother to her two boys is her biggest passion. She believes Shelton is airy, fresh and organic, and is captivated by its looks and the relationships that teachers are able to build with their students. She thinks that all of that is only possible with the flexibility provided by administration to provide for each student’s needs. What she likes most about teaching is being able to have fun with her students while they learn. This is important to her because, in her option, it creates a great learning environment for the class where students enjoy the process of learning.
